Just a quick update…

Personal note…

First, I just got back from vacation. I went with Anthony, Meriel and Rebecca to Seattle. Seattle is where Meriel is from. It was a really fun trip and I met most of Meriel’s family. There are too many to name, but they were all great and fun. There were two (cousins) that I really enjoyed hanging out with, which were Maxx and Christa. Maxx is the “life of the party” personality. He is a DJ (both in Seattle and Vegas) and he is really good. We went out to a club one night where he was DJing (it’s a word now) and had a blast. Plus, there were Smokin Hot Asian girls EVERYWHERE. Christa is married to a Marine and is currently living in Okinawa. She has two great kids. She was home for the summer. She is funny and was a blast to hangout with.

Seattle is a cool place to visit, but don’t think I could live there. We got on the plane in DFW and it was about 85 degrees…at 7 am! We got off the plane in Seattle at 10am (their time) and it was 60 degrees. Really? It’s July! I was freezing my ass off. Thank God I packed a fleece to wear. It was overcast and rainy most of the days, but everything was green. Really green! Very scenic. It kind of reminded me of Pittsburgh in the neighborhoods.

Professional note…

Well, it is official today. The good news is I got a promotion at work. The bad news is I now have to move to Bentonville, Arkansas. It actually is pretty nice there in most places, but it is Small Town USA. I am really going to miss the hustle of Dallas. Conveniently, I will be visiting my friends there often (5 hour drive).

So my new title is Senior Manager Support Non Store Operations for Health & Wellness Division. I know a mouthful. It will be the first time in 14 years I will not be in Asset Protection. I have made the transition from a support field to operations. My new role is very exciting, with things I already do and new responsibilities. A primary responsibility will be managing Environmental Compliance for all 7 facilities. I already have vast experience with this, so it won’t be that much of a change for me. I will also be responsible for managing Capital Expenditures (outside of Maintenance) and Inventory alignment for the buildings. Additionally, (and what I am most excited about) I will be involved as a project manager as we build new Fill facilities. All in all, very excited.

I can’t help to be reflective. When I was married, I passed on several opportunities because she didn’t want to move from Columbus. The first couple of times I brought up the subject, I took tongue lashings. I eventually just quit telling her about them. Since I have been free, I have made the most of the opportunities presented to me. If you think about it, it’s kind of ridiculous. I have moved from a single facility AP manager, to a multi facility AP Manager to a Senior Manager is less time that I spent as an hourly supervisor. I still feel “behind” in the game. But, everything happens for a reason. Maybe I was meant to go through what I did to be a stronger person now in this situation. Who knows? But I am happy.

Moving to Bentonville won’t be as bad as when I moved to Dallas. At least this time I know people where I am going. And I can always go back and visit my friends it Big D…
